We, as women are busy, so finding the time to take care of yourself can be hard. In fact, it can be the last thing you want to do. But if you don’t, it won’t be long before you’re battling exhaustion and operating in a mental fog where it’s hard to care about anything or anyone.
Too busy!
We become snippy and snappy, take things personal and push people away.
I should know. I have been there many times over my lifetime. Super focused on my goals, working 50 hour weeks, juggling all the balls I had in the air and trying to meet my own expectations of myself and others.
These expectations are judgements that we have on ourself that keep us in a vicious cycle. We feel that we can add one more task, one more phone call, one more posts, one more something and then we will feel more “accomplished”, “good enough”, that we “did enough”. (I need to write more about that in another posts) This adds to more depletion of our energy and the time that we could have taken for ourself.
One small minute of nothing…just for yourself.
I talk to women daily that are feeling stretched to no end. They are raising children, working full time jobs, cooking and cleaning on their days off, shuffling kids to events and practices, barely having time to spend with their husband/partner, family or friends. Let alone time for ourself. And especially now with the pandemic and children not in school and being home ALL. THE. TIME!
Women are suffering from exhaustion, depression, health issues, thyroid issues, not sleeping, and all kinds of aches and pains. I truly believe this is how our bodies are handling our stressors and trying to get our attention to make some changes in our life. And then add the stress on our relationships!
Addictions and obesity is at an all time high right now.
Today, women are using alcohol and anti anxiety medications to relieve their anxiety or eating their way to comfort. I have read that during this pandemic, the average weight gain is 15 lbs. This cycle doesn’t get better without some change in our thoughts, our feelings and our lifestyle.
In this “new normal” lifestyle, it has become easier to take a pill than take a walk or an exercise class online or do a few yoga stretches. To have another drink rather than get to the bottom of your unhappiness. To eat another tub of Ben & Jerry’s and binge on Netflix rather than take a bubble bath with candles, soft music and quiet your mind. (takes the same amount of time) There is absolutely NO judgement here. I am right there with ya woman!
A few small changes could make all the difference in the world.
I know thinking of taking the time out of your already busy day for yourself seems unheard of, but it is doable!
You are in control of your time and calendar! You may need to ask for help…but it is doable!
Let me say that again. YOU ARE IN CONTROL OF YOUR TIME!
So take control of it by starting off your mornings differently.
I want you to pick 3 out of the 10 things to do below and start your morning out right. (this will change your attitude the rest of the day… I promise)
Set your alarm and get up 15-30 minutes earlier than anyone else.
Don’t look at your phone nor turn on the TV. (any text, call or messages to you… is someone else’s agenda for you. These can wait) I know that this is a very difficult habit to break but after a week or so…you will see the difference in who is in control.
Sit and read something positive for 5 minutes. This can be the Bible, a daily meditation, a paragraph out of a positive book. (anything uplifting)
Journal or write about how you are feeling, what are your desires and how you want your day to go. (positive)
Write down 3-5 things that you are grateful for or to.
Pray for your family, friends and others
Sit and connect with nature. (Listen to the sounds around you, see the plants/trees, smells the fresh air, look off into the distance, feel the wind or sun on your skin) Try using all of your senses.
Listen to an upbeat song that makes you feel happy.
Do some stretches, go for a walk, or exercise. I am loving KNRGY right now!
Take a bubble bath and then lather lotion on your body. (Add pure grade essentials oils for more pleasure)
Pick an Oracle card for inspiration (I love Colette Baron Reid’s card and you can find all different ones on her website and the App store for digital ones…just pick which ones resonate with you)
Just sit and listen to your breathing for 5 minutes. Sometimes I hum so that I don’t think about what I have to do for the day. (You can’t think and hum at the same time :>)
So there you go. Just pick 3 and do them for a week and see how your attitude shifts for the day and how things naturally fall into place.
BONUS: Do Tony Robbins “Priming” for 10 days and see how much your day and life changes!
In a week, add a new one!
I promise you… YOU will start to have more energy and your mood will be better AND your loved ones will be thankful. You will show up and be a better person, wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend.
Remember the saying “If mama ain’t happy, nobody’s happy”?
IT IS TRUE… your family can thank me later!
