I fondly remember sitting on the bathroom cabinet watching my mother put on her makeup. She could see the admiration in my eyes, I had for her and how I watched her every move.   Absolutely fascinated by the way she put on her make up.  Especially, her eyebrows and her lipstick.

Bra and Girdle

She would lick a finger and give her eyebrows one quick swop.  Then filled in her eyebrows with a black eyebrow pencil,.  With a comb, she would comb them up and then shape the top of them. Standing back in her bra and “girdle” ( yes, she wore one every day when she worked … dresses and heels)  she would look at them from a distance to make sure they were perfect.  Oh and that girdle…. had straps that hooked to the top of her silk hose.  I did not know the word “sexy” back then….but she certainly was!  There was something about the feel of those silk hose that I just loved.

Here comes the lipstick…

RED …she starts at the middle of her top lip and draws the lipstick out to the edges… then the other side, then back and forth on the bottom lip.  Then she pursed her lips together with a few smacks.  Grabbing 1 square of toilet paper to press between her lips to blot it so that it will stay on almost all day!

Whats funny is today I was putting on my makeup and I licked a finger, brushed my eyebrows  just like my mother.  Brought back such fab memories being a little girl and wanting to learn from my mommy.

My needs

I think this is where I learned to take care of myself and tend to my needs.  It’s hard to make ourself a priority but it is so necessary these days.  Some days we are just running on fumes and need to recharge.

Completing a 5 day Challenge where women learned new and exciting ways to create their day and evenings to nourish and nurture themself, be playful again and find their contentment-filled life again. The women that participated last week are sharing how much better they feel, they are getting things accomplished, enjoying their alone time and are reconnecting with family and friends… virtually!

Now, what memories do you have growing up?  I would love to hear some of your stories!
