Lately, my ex husband has been posting pictures of the past of our sons on social media and my initial reaction is …. WTH… where the heck am I?
We have tons of pictures of my ex husband, hunting and fishing, Christmas’s, birthday parties, vacations, and family get togethers with the boys, but we don’t have many of ME with the boys. AND this is totally my fault.
(You need to think CAMERA’S and Video camera’s. NOT IPHONES!! )
When taking photos, I always felt like I had to have my makeup on or the angle wasn’t right or I was pregnant (and heaven forbid you take pictures while pregnant) .
Now, I feel totally left out of the memories; like I wasn’t even there for those precious moments…. but I was!
I was behind the camera.
In looking through the boys photo albums, I am probably in 15-25 % of the pictures where my ex is in 75-85 % of the pictures. Thank God other people snapped a few of me … or I wouldn’t be in any of them.
Today, I see all the pictures of women taken during their pregnancy, with fitted maternity clothes, proud of their growing belly’s and they look so beautiful and have captured a miracle with a photo.
I have very few pictures of my pregnancy with the boys. Even though, I loved being pregnant and I felt beautiful during those times, you just didn’t take photos when you were pregnant.
The way I felt on the inside did not match how I felt I looked on the outside.
And the maternity clothes! OMG, weren’t flattering at all. In fact they made us look HUGE. Think TENT tops and TENT dresses. Not fitted or snug at all! I truly wish I had more pictures during my pregnancies!
I LOVED being pregnant!
In todays world of iphones, selfies and social media you can always capture yourself in photos. I am so grateful that my sons can take pictures of their families and be in every one of them if they choose to.
AND, lets be real on social media!
So Dads, take those photos!
You need pictures of your family that include the mother of your children. I do love the pictures of my sons and I am so thankful I have some of my sons with their Dad, but it is so important to of had pictures of all of us as a family.
Dad. One night if your wife is reading a story book to your daughter, whip out your phone and take a picture.
No warning, nor posing!
If she is in the kitchen chatting with your son about his day, take the picture.
When she is bathing the kids in the bathtub, take the picture!
Even if it is a no make up, bad hair day, or a pj day!
These sweet babies grow up so fast and are getting older and older every day. Before you know it they will be going off to college or getting married and moving away.
Take the picture now!
Take the picture so they see how much she loved them.
Take the picture so they can always remember how fun she was. Take the picture so they remember how beautiful she was.
One day the children will have left home, she will be gone and all that is left of her are memories.
PS: So… to my boys.
YES I was there and loving every moment with you !
